The Clarion-Ledger Contest Winner

Leslie Roark Scott, the Barbeque Princess, had a great time with Chimneyville’s Mark Beason sharing knowledge with contest winner, Trey Woods. The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, MS sponsored a contest wherein one of their readers won a chance to have private lessons from these two BBQ professionals. On a hot Saturday in August, the Princess and Beason arrived at Woods house with a Backwoods smoker, plenty of Royal Oak Charcoal, and enough groceries from Kroger to feed a small army. The BBQ pros shared their expertise and guided Woods through the preparation of a BBQ feast including: Ribs, Polk’s Sausage, chicken, baked beans, potato salad and corn salad. Woods went on to compete the next weekend at the Fire and Feast BBQ competition in Yazoo City, MS with a paid entry from The Clarion Ledger and supplies provided by Kroger. He place 6th out of 23 backyard teams. Not too shabby. Check out some highlights below.
